David Kahne reviews The Propellers self-titled debut
4.08.08 - David Kahne, legendary producer and former head of Reprise Records, recently took time to listen and comment on The Propellers self-titled debut album. Here's a short excerpt from his comments:

"The Propellers are a strong band...Really good lyricist. The singing has a kind of speak-sing thing to it a lot of the time, and reminded me a little of Lou Reed (style wise, not sound wise). I like the more dissonant music, like on Untrue, the aug 9 chord right in the middle of the drop. It suits the singers vibe, shakes things up. I liked Colt State Park. I don't know where that is, but I like the constant flipping of meaning that was going on in the song."

Propellers reviewed in MOTIF Magazine
4.23.08 - "This is the caliber of material created during the hayday of competitive songwriting, when albums were works of art, not iPod fodder."

About
Formed in 2004 and based in America's Renaissance City, Providence, Rhode Island, The Propellers songs are conceived from bouts of rain-drenched insomnia and often fueled by an infamous, government created strain of contraband from British Columbia (…The Propellers neither condone or discourage use of said contraband).

The Propellers cover a wide range of themes:
Lullabies for the adorable yet petulant child . . .
. . . homesickness
. . . a rooftop swan Song
. . . and a love song of extraterrestrial proportions.

Fans of Wilco, Randy Newman, The Flaming Lips, Tom Waits, and Pink Floyd will delight in this ear candy.

Dave, Bob, Mike and others with common monosyllabic names join together with Tom in a noble quest to toil in Indie Rock obscurity. The rest is history . . . waiting to be made.
